bioRxiv is a free online archive of unpublished preprint manuscripts in the life sciences. Articles are not peer reviewed, edited, or typeset. However, all articles undergo a basic screening process for offensive and/or non-scientific content and for material that might pose a health or biosecurity risk. All articles are also checked for plagiarism. Authors may submit their articles to bioRxiv prior to, or simultaneously with, submission to a journal.
bioRxiv thus allows authors to make their findings immediately available to the scientific community and receive feedback on draft manuscripts prior to submission to journals. This makes bioRxiv is a useful source for finding new research in the life sciences, but it is important to remember that its articles have not been peer reviewed, nor have they undergone the editing that journal articles receive.
