Ethnologue: Languages of the World is a database of information about the world’s 7000 living languages. For each language, it lists names and dialects, population estimates, location, details by country, vitality level, usage, and second language information. For each country, it lists languages, language counts, principal languages, and languages by vitality level. It also includes language classifications and language family trees. Information is drawn from a wide variety of books, reference sources, serials, and government publications.

The Ethnologue platform includes some restricted features that cannot be accessed through Rutgers University Libraries’ subscription, such as maps.

This database is the electronic counterpart and continuation of the print publication Ethnologue.
