Luthers Werke
Luthers Werke is the complete collection of Martin Luther's writings and verbal statements. This is the Weimar edition of Luther's works, also known as the Weimarer Ausgabe (WA), currently published by Verlag Hermann Böhlaus Nachfolger Weimar GmbH & Co. Martin Luther (1483-1546) is a central figure in the development of European culture as the instigator of the Protestant Reformation, founder of the Lutheran Church, and translator of the Bible into German, which also contributed to the establishment of the High German language. Luther's translation and other works also led to a shift in Christian religious authority away from the Roman Catholic Church's central religious hierarchy and toward the individual believer, as the common person could now read the Bible in vernacular language.
Luther's later works include anti-Semitic writings. These were used by Nazi Germany in its justifications for the Holocaust. Lutheran denominations around the world have denounced Luther's anti-Semitism as contrary to Christianity.
