U.S. History Collection (Alexander Street)

U.S. History Collection (Alexander Street) brings together a wide variety of primary sources covering U.S. history from the mid-1500s through the early 21st century, including historical narratives, letters, diaries,  news footage, documentaries, and more. It includes the following subcollections:

• American History in Video
• American Civil War: Letters and Diaries
• Early Encounters in North America: Peoples, Cultures, and the Environment
• The Gilded Age
• North American Indian Thought and Culture
• North American Immigrant Letters, Diaries, and Oral Histories

These collections illuminate the voices of peoples who have lived in the land that would become the United States, including the perspectives of indigenous people, immigrants, social activists and reformers, soldiers on both sides of the U.S. Civil War, and many more. Due to the age and nature of this material, some digitized items may contain views, imagery, or terminology now considered to be inaccurate, biased, or offensive.
