Victorians on Film

Victorians on Film is a collection of digitized films produced in Britain during the Victorian era. It includes the British Film Institute’s complete Victorian Film Collection; the digitized archive of British film producers Sagar Mitchell and James Kenyon (Mitchell and Kenyon collection); and the Early Large Format Films Collection, which includes films produced around the world in either 60mm or 68mm film. Accompanying essays, biographies, and interviews with scholars provide historical context for the films.

The collection includes films on a wide variety of topics. Some films depict historical figures and events, including Queen Victoria, Pope Leo XIII, military leaders, and military operations. There are films depicting everyday life, athletic events, scientific observations, and nature. The collection also includes comic film shorts, comedies, and dramas.
