Description

American History in Video is a collection of over 7,000 videos documenting and describing events in American history. It allows students and researchers to analyze historical events and their presentation over time. Video types include commercial and governmental newsreels, archival footage, public affairs footage, and documentaries. Sources include PBS, California Newsreel, Bullfrog films, Documentary Education Resources, Pennebaker Hegedus Films, WGBH Boston, The History Channel, and the National Archives.

A searchable transcript accompanies each video. Index terms are assigned to each video to aid in searching. The Alexander Street video platform offers the ability to create playlists, create video clips, permalink to videos, and embed videos in course management systems.
