Description

The Handbook of Latin American Studies is an index of scholarship in Latin American Studies. It includes records for books, journal articles, book chapters, conference papers, maps and atlases, and electronic resources. Each record has been selected and annotated by scholars. A wide range of disciplines are covered, including anthropology (archeology and ethnology), art, geography, government and politics, history, international relations, literature, music, philosophy, political economy, and sociology.

New records are added to the handbook continuously. The handbook alternates annually between adding new records in the social sciences and the humanities. The handbook is edited by the Hispanic Division of the Library of Congress.

This database is the electronic counterpart of the print publication Handbook of Latin American Studies, which began publication in 1936. This database includes the complete contents of the print publication from 1936 – present. The Library of Congress also offers a modern interface for Handbook of Latin American Studies, but it only offers records from 1970s – present.
