LibKey Nomad is a free browser extension that connects you to many scholarly articles and ebooks available from Rutgers University Libraries, even when you begin your research outside the library website.
LibKey Nomad
Use LibKey Nomad to:
- Access many library-subscribed and open access articles and ebooks while searching the web
- Avoid publisher paywalls
- Download a PDF or read an article or ebook with fewer clicks
- Find additional article access or request options when full text is unavailable
Getting Started
- Visit the LibKey Nomad download page and select your browser.
- Follow the prompts to download and install the extension.
- Select Rutgers University as your organization.
Accessing Articles through LibKey Nomad
When you find an article citation with a DOI or PMID, a LibKey Nomad link appears. When you select the link, LibKey Nomad checks whether the article is available through Rutgers University Libraries or an open access source. If it is, LibKey Nomad connects you to the article’s full text. If it is not, LibKey Nomad takes you to Rutgers University Libraries’ interlibrary loan form, where you may request the article.
Accessing eBooks through LibKey Nomad
When you find an ebook citation with an ISBN, LibKey Nomad proactively checks to see if that ebook is available through Rutgers University Libraries or an open access source. If it is, a LibKey Nomad link will appear next to it, and selecting it will connect you to the ebook full text. If the ebook is not available, a LibKey Nomad link will not appear.

Fitting LibKey Nomad into your research process
LibKey Nomad allows you to conveniently access many of Rutgers University Libraries’ full-text articles and ebooks within the websites and tools you already use. However, LibKey Nomad cannot connect to all of Rutgers’ articles and ebooks, nor can it connect to electronic resources in other formats (such as streaming videos and images), nor can it provide information about RUL’s physical resources. To view the greatest breadth of library resources available to you, we recommend using QuickSearch and RUL Databases relevant to your area of research.
