Borrowing - Rutgers Students

Actively enrolled Rutgers students are eligible to:

  • Borrow any circulating item from any Rutgers library
  • Use interlibrary loan and article delivery
  • Access other libraries with which we have cooperative agreements

Use QuickSearch to find library materials. Sign in with your NetID to place requests.

To check items out at the library, use your Rutgers ID card.

You can check out items up to one month in advance of starting classes or working at Rutgers. Bring a valid Rutgers ID card or proof of current registration to the information desk of any Rutgers library. Contact us if you have any questions, or for information on registering via email.

Loan periods

Most books can be checked out for a full semester, though reserves, interlibrary loans, and some materials held in Health Sciences and Law collections may have shorter loan periods. Media items have a loan period of seven days. You can check the due date for your materials in your library account.

Reminders and Fees

If you're a registered student, regularly circulating books will renew automatically at the end of each semester. If your books are close to their due date, you'll receive a courtesy notice a few days before they are due reminding you to return them to the library.
