To find a journal, magazine, or newspaper article in the most popular databases in your subject area, enter your search term(s) and choose a subject from the pull-down menu. To find books and more in the Library Catalog, enter your term(s) and select a search type in the pull-down menu. For more information see "How Do I Find a Book?"

To find a print or electronic journal in the Rutgers collections, enter its title or keywords in the title and select the appropriate search type in the pull-down menu. For more information, see "How Do I Find a Journal?"

To find a list of books, textbooks, and electronic articles placed on course reserve by your instructor, enter your instructor's last name and search. You can also use the pull-down menu to search by course title or number.

CME Credit through Rutgers’ E-Resources

Go to http://libraries.rutgers.edu/smith and go to the “Quick Links” section on the right side of the home page to find a link to ClinicalKey.   Select the "Registration" link on the top right corner of the site. You will be asked to enter a Username (your email address) and a Password. These will serve as your credentials to log in to this resource.

If you are using ClinicalKey through your institution's account via its network or VPN, you are not required to go through the registration or login process to access content.  (Preceptors who access this resource from an off-site computer will need to register.) You have direct access to content subscribed to by your institution. However, if you would like access to book PDFs or to personalize the ClinicalKey experience (e.g., Saved Content), you will need to register (create a User Profile/ Personal Account) and log in using those credentials.

ClinicalKey is optimized for both desktop and laptop computers as well as tablets and smartphones.

There is an important connection notice for UpToDate:  Users may register with any email address as long as they are on a computer on the Rutgers network/IP range in order to download mobile versions of the product.  Registration is also required in order to earn CME/CE/CPD credit via UpToDate.  A limit of thee downloads are allowed per person.  ONLY AUTHORIZED RUTGERS UNIVERSITY USERS MAY ACCESS AND/OR DOWNLOAD THE APP FOR THIS PRODUCT TO A MOBILE DEVICE. Downloading of the product is not allowed from a computer which is offsite and not on the Rutgers computer network; users will instead be prompted to pay for access.

UpToDate is a point-of-care information resource which contains over 10,000 topics representing 22 specialties.  In addition to the e-textbook content, UpToDate contains information on drugs/drug interactions, a library of images and videos, standard medical calculators and decision tools, “practice changing” current information, and training resources. There are multiple links to full-text content and the resource is currently searchable in nine languages.

UpToDate is searchable in multiple languages -- Supported languages are as follows:  Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, and Spanish. UpToDate includes a searchable library of over 28,000 pictures, tables, illustrations, diagrams, graphs, algorithms, and videos.  Relevant graphics are also linked in each topic.  Graphics may be exported to PowerPoint or e-mailed.  The following medical calculators are available (by subject category):

Users should click on “Calculators” on the UpToDate toolbar, then click on “All Calculators” and scroll through to click on the desired instrument.   Patient Education materials contained in the product meet the patient-specific Meaningful Use Sate 2 criteria for readability and content.  Two types of articles are published:  The Basics and Beyond the Basics. The latter are one to three pages in length and follow the principles of Plain Language.  The Beyond the Basics articles are five to ten pages in length and contain richer details.  Information on drugs and drug reactions is authoritative and is derived from Lexicomp. 

Registered users should log in each time they search UpToDate; continuing education credits are available by performing content searches. CME/CE/C/CPD credit is available numerous sources, including the American College of Family Physicians, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American College of Emergency Physicians, and for Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants.
