The Institute of Jazz Studies is the world's foremost jazz archives and research library. Founded in 1952 by pioneer jazz scholar Marshall Stearns (1908-1966), the Institute has been a pioneering institution in the preservation an access of jazz heritage.
For decades, dedicated librarians at John Cotton Dana Library collected and stewarded archival materials which were generated and compiled by the Rutgers—Newark campus community.
The John Cotton Dana Library at Rutgers University–Newark is a patron-focused intellectual hub providing access to and participating in the production of knowledge.
