Borrowing - Rutgers Faculty and Staff
Rutgers staff and faculty, including faculty emeriti, visiting scholars, and RBHS volunteer faculty, are eligible to:
- Borrow any circulating item from any Rutgers library
- Use interlibrary loan
- Book your course reserves materials at a specific time to use in class
- Access other libraries with which we have cooperative agreements
Use QuickSearch to find library materials. Sign in with your NetID to place requests.
To check items out at the library, use your Rutgers ID card.
Faculty may designate a proxy (usually a graduate assistant) who can place requests and borrow on their behalf. Complete the proxy card application form.
You can check out items up to one month in advance of working at Rutgers. Bring a valid Rutgers ID card or proof of current employment to the information desk of any Rutgers library. Contact us if you have any questions or to register by email. Visiting scholars should also bring or attach an official appointment letter showing start and end dates.
Reading lists and reserves
The library provides course reserves services via the reading list tool in Canvas and Sakai. Learn how to set up an online reading list for materials available in QuickSearch or that you already have in digital format. You can also set up your course reserves list or request materials to be purchased for reserves by submitting the reserves request form.
Most books and media can be checked out for a full semester, though reserves, interlibrary loans, and some materials held in health sciences and law collections may have shorter loan periods. You can check the due date for your materials in your library account.
Reminders and Fees
If you're a continuing faculty member, regularly circulating books will renew automatically at the end of each semester. If your books are close to their due date, you'll receive a courtesy notice a few days before they are due reminding you to return them to the library.
