NIH Public Access Policy

The National Institutes of Health Public Access Policy ensures that the public has access to the published results of NIH-funded research. The policy requires that all NIH-funded investigators submit or have submitted for them an electronic version of their final, peer-reviewed manuscripts to PubMed Central (PMC) upon acceptance for publication. The final published paper must be made publicly available no later than 12 months after the official date of publication in a manner consistent with copyright law. The final published paper must have a PMCID assigned within 3 months of publication. Failure to comply with the NIH Public Access Policy could result in discontinuation of funding or no future funding.
